If there is one thing I have learned since moving away from my family in 2018, it’s that there is nothing more important to me than my family. When we’re living in or around something everyday we take it for granted. That’s exactly the case with my family. I had always overlooked the time spent with them until it became less. Now I live multiple states away from my parents and brothers and find myself wishing I could spend more time with them. Time is the most valuable, yet delicate thing we have in this life, and we need to spend it doing the things we enjoy with the people we love.
Above is a picture of my family in Hawaii over Christmas in 2016. I have so many great memories from that trip that I will cherish for the rest of my life. I also look forward to making more memories in the years to come. Experiences like these shape who we are, and I’ve been so blessed to have such a loving and fun family.
The reality of it all is that it’s so important to look at every moment with your family as something special because they’re not going to be around forever. So I encourage you to take some time out of your busy schedule today to reach out to your family and tell them you love them. If you don’t have family or don’t get along with your family, reach out to your grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, or even a friend. It may feel awkward or uncomfortable at first. Especially if you haven’t spoken in a while, but simple acts like these go a long way. Talk about the memories you have together and catch up on what has happened in life since you last spoke to them.
Your family members are the most important people in your life. Don’t take them for granted!
